The Romanesque chapel of Saint-Julien-de-la-Nef was rebuilt in 1110 on the ruins of a small Visigothic church, itself built on the foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple dedicated to ISIS, well known to the Cevennes in ancient times

Around the years 900-1000, the side walls of the small Visigothic church were burnt down. For this reason, one of the vaults and the columns were rebuilt in 1110
The building is built over a spring, and during excavations in 1978 we found tegulae (Roman flat tiles), as well as the cut tufa stone foundations of the former small Gallo-Roman temple, still visible on the right-hand side of the building
There are many similarities between the myths of Saint-Julien l’hospitalier and Isis. In the myth of Isis, as in that of Saint-Julien, it is the nave (the boat) that enables her to cross the river. It allows her to pass from the material life to the spiritual life, from one world to another…
